Au + Alchemy
A body of work created specifically for the exhibition ‘Awe & Alchemy’. Alchemy happens when less valuable elements are transformed into gold. The periodic table in chemistry is made up of 118 elements, 16 of which are known as the alchemical elements. Using pure gold (Au is the periodic symbol for gold), 18ct gold, brass and foam cubes from my daughters’ old toy, I challenge what is valuable.
